Buscopan tablets contain the antispasmodic and anticholinergic medication, hyoscine butylbromide 10mg that is used to treat painful muscle spasm in the biliary, gastrointestinal, and urinary tracts.
Buscopan tablets are used for muscle spasm causing stomach cramps associated with irritable bowel syndrome or food poisoning. Painful muscle spasms may also form in the bile duct, kidney or bladder and may be treated with Buscopan tablets.
Hyoscine blocks the acetylcholine receptors in smooth muscle cells that cause spasm, allowing the muscles to relax and symptomatic relief is felt.
The usual dose for adults is one to two tablets up to four times daily as required to bring about relief of symptoms.
