Nasonex general information

What is Nasonex used for?

Nasonex nasal spray is used for the treatment and prevention of allergic rhinitis caused by seasonal allergy to pollen, also known as hay fever, and perennial allergy to year-round allergens such as animal fur, mould and house dust mites. Nasonex nasal spray relieves nasal symptoms of allergic rhinitis including nasal congestion, runny itchy nose and sneezing. Nasonex nasal spray is also used to treat nasal polyps, which are growths in the nose that often develop at the same time as allergic rhinitis and are thought to be caused by the allergy.

How does Nasonex work?

Nasonex nasal spray contains the mometasone, which is a potent corticosteroid and anti-inflammatory medication that controls local inflammation in the nasal passages caused by an allergic reaction to allergens like pollen or house dust mite. Mometasone in Nasonex nasal spray blocks the production of inflammatory chemicals, like prostaglandins and leukotrienes, and reduces signs of inflammation, such as mucus production, swelling and irritation, which helps relieve symptoms including runny itchy nose, nasal congestion and sneezing. Nasonex nasal spray also slows down the growth of nasal polyps and helps relieve nasal congestion caused by the polyps

What does Nasonex contain?

Nasonex nasal spray contains the active ingredient mometasone furoate 0.05% in suspension, a potent corticosteroid and anti-inflammatory used to prevent and treat allergic rhinitis. It also contains glycerin, microcrystalline cellulose, carboxymethylcellulose sodium, sodium citrate, citric acid, benzalkonium chloride, and polysorbate 80. Nasonex nasal spray is supplied as a metered dose spray pump and each actuation (metered spray) delivers 50mcg mometasone furoate into the nasal passages; each bottle of Nasonex nasal spray contains 140 doses.
