Lizofly general information

What is Lizofly used for?

Lizofly tablets 600mg are an antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections in different parts of the body caused by a variety of susceptible bacteria that are at risk of becoming antibiotic resistant.  Lizofly tablets 600mg are used to treat pneumonia, both community acquired, which is one of the most common serious infectious diseases, usually caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae; also nosocomial pneumonia, which is hospital-acquired pneumonia contracted within 48-72 hours of admission.  Lizofly tablets 600mg are also used to treat complicated skin and soft tissue infections, which involve deeper infections such as infected ulcers, burns, and major abscesses usually due to Staphylococcus aureus.  Lizofly tablets 600mg are also used to treat infections due to enterococcus bacterial that cause a variety of infections including urinary tract infections, endocarditis, infection of the endocardium (inner lining of the heart) and meningitis.  These infections are often associated with concurrent bacteraemia, which is bacterial infection of the blood by bacteria including Staphyloccocus, Streptococcus, and Enterococcus bacteria and can cause serious and life-threatening illness.

How does Lizofly work?

Lizofly tablets 600mg contain linezolid, a new antibiotic that is effective against only gram positive bacteria but is used to treat serious infections caused by bacteria that are resistant or at risk of becoming resistant to other antibiotics.  Linezolid in Lizofly tablets 600mg works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis by a mechanism of action that is different from other antibiotics.  This action of Linezolid in Lizofly tablets 600mg prevents the bacteria from producing proteins that are needed for its growth, which stops the spread of the bacteria and relieves symptoms of the bacterial infection, which include inflammation and pain.  Lizofly tablets 600mg are effective against several susceptible bacteria including Streptococcus, Staphylococcus and Enterococcus but do not work against viruses, which use a different mechanism to grow and replicate.
