Ludiomil general information

What is Ludiomil used for?

Ludiomil tablets 25mg are used to treat all forms and severities of depression, including primary (endogenous) clinical depression or Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), which may be due to no known cause and secondary (reactive) depression which may be caused by triggers like stress or exhaustion; or by a medical condition or psychiatric illness. Ludiomil tablets 25mg are also used to treat involutional depression, which is considered to be gradual onset depression affecting the middle-aged and elderly, particularly post-menopausal women; the depressive phase of manic-depressive illness (bipolar depression); also for other depressive mood disorders characterised by anxiety, dysphoria (unpleasant or uncomfortable mood, such as sadness), irritability or apathy. Ludiomil tablets 25mg help relieve symptoms of depressive illness, including anxiety, agitation, restlessness, loss of interest in usual activities, disturbed sleep, change in appetite, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, difficulty thinking or concentrating, and recurrent thoughts of suicide.

How does Ludiomil work?

Ludiomil tablets 25mg contain maprotiline, which is a tetracyclic antidepressant that acts as a non-selective monoamine reuptake inhibitor in the central nervous system. Maprotiline in Ludiomil tablets 25mg strongly inhibits the uptake in nerve cells of the brain and peripheral tissues, of noradrenaline and serotonin (very weakly), both of which are neurotransmitters or brain chemical that allow nerve cells to communicate and are involved in regulating mood. This action blocks the re-uptake of noradrenaline from the synapse (the gap between nerve cells across which chemical messages are sent from one nerve cell to another). If the re-uptake of noradrenaline by the first nerve cell (pre-synaptic) is blocked, this means that there is more neurotransmitter remaining for the receiving nerve cell (post-synaptic), which allows nerve cells to communicate with each other for longer and increases stimulation of nerve pathways that control mood. Maprotiline in Ludiomil tablets 25mg has other actions that include blocking the effect of histamine, which explains its sedative properties and blocking the actions of certain chemicals involved in nerve transmission (neurotransmitters) like acetylcholine, which may contribute to its side effects. Ludiomil tablets 25mg help to correct the chemical imbalance caused by a lack of certain neurotransmitters that is thought to be one of the major causes of depression to help relieve symptoms of depression and other mood disorders.

Treating depression with Ludiomil

Ludiomil tablets 25mg contain maprotiline, which is a tetracyclic antidepressant that is used to treat depression of various forms and severities. A chemical imbalance caused by a lack of certain neurotransmitters (brain chemical that allow nerve cells to communicate), like serotonin and noradrenaline, is thought to be one of the major causes of depression and other psychiatric disorders. Maprotiline in Ludiomil tablets 25mg acts directly on the central nervous system to inhibit the uptake in nerve cells of the brain and peripheral tissues, of noradrenaline a neurotransmitter involved in regulating mood. This action blocks the re-uptake of noradrenaline from the synapse (the gap between nerve cells across which chemical messages are sent from one nerve cell to another), which allows nerve cells to communicate with each other for longer and increases stimulation of nerve pathways that control mood. It also weakly inhibits the reuptake of serotonoin. Ludiomil tablets 25mg help relieve symptoms of depression, including anxiety, loss of interest in usual activities, disturbed sleep, change in appetite, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, difficulty thinking or concentrating, and recurrent thoughts of suicide. Maprotiline in Ludiomil tablets 25mg has other actions that include blocking the effect of histamine, which explains its sedative properties.
